Paddy Long's. Beer, bacon, and soccer bar
Chicago's premier beer and bacon bar, Paddy Long’s is a popular hangout for a mixed crowd of young Lincoln Park hipsters and older regulars on a first-name basis with the owner – a Dublin native who is often also the bartender. Usually low-key and welcoming, this Irish-style pub features craft beers and a menu that would make a vegetarian faint, including the signature Bacon Bomb, a five-pound processed pork explosion that few have ever attempted to finish.

Le Canadien d'origine cubaine avait d'abord annoncé sa retraite le 18 avril dernier. Puis, le 21 juin, il avait demandé à l'équipe de pouvoir reprendre l'entraînement.

Maybe We Should Be Judging Wines by Their Labels
Like plenty of normal people, I buy wine mostly based on the label. Sure, price is important — and those little cards with the scores help, too — but, frankly, if I do not like the label, I will not buy the wine, simple as that. You know that wine with the three moose wearing sunglasses? It’s called 3 Blind Moose? Yeah: I hate that label. I will never buy that wine. This is actually reasonable, I think. Unless you have an extensive knowledge of regions and grapes, the wine you choose is simply not going to matter all that much. What’s the worst that can happen? Unless it literally tastes like those sweat socks that wine people insist on using as a flavor comparison, you still end up with a bottle of wine you can drink. And last time I checked, a bottle of wine will get you nicely buzzed with your friends over the course of an evening no matter what you choose. So why not choose based on the label?

Sorti en France le 19 juin 1996, Trainspotting a déjà 15 ans. Cette adaptation du roman d'Irvine Welsh, qui raconte les aventures du junkie écossais Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), reste pour beaucoup le meilleur film de Danny Boyle. Mais à quoi ressemblerait Trainspotting s'il sortait aujourd'hui ?

Pizzolitto devant le comité de discipline
C’est ce qu’a rapporté le site web CanadianSoccerNews.com, lundi. Pizzolitto aurait craché en direction d’un partisan des Whitecaps de Vancouver le 4 mai dernier, à l’issue d’un match du Championnat canadien Nutrilite perdu par l’Impact. L’ACS reproche donc au défenseur originaire de Montréal d’avoir transgressé le règlement 11 c (d) qui stipule qu’il est interdit de «commettre un geste qui jette un discrédit sur le sport».

Fire in the hole
IT IS a noun, not a verb. You do not barbecue meat; you smoke it until it becomes barbecue. And it is not a meal so much as a meditative process, perched somewhere between science and art, dependent on reserves of judgment. The science lies in building a fire that will smoulder steadily without flaring, and in constructing a vessel that will bathe the meat in smoke without subjecting it to too much heat. The art lies in the butchering and seasoning. The judgment comes in knowing precisely when a cooking process that may last as long as 18 or 24 hours should end. Barbecue is the art of turning tough cuts tender (“Need no teef to eat my beef” is a popular boast among smokemasters). None of these facts brook disagreement, but here the unity ends.

Par où l'Impact doit-il commencer?
Alors, qu'est-ce qu'on fait maintenant? Quelle doit être la priorité pour l'état-major de l'Impact afin de restaurer une crédibilité à l'équipe sur le terrain? Vaut-il la peine d'agir à court terme pour sauver ce qui reste de la saison 2011? Serait-il préférable d'axer ses efforts en fonction d'une vision à long terme dont le premier chapitre s'amorce en 2012?

50 Incredible Film Posters From Poland
When I’m not geeking out over design you can probably find me geeking out over film. I spent a good 7 years of my life working behind the counters of various video stores across Western Canada and consider myself an avid film nerd.
So it’s not surprisingly that my jaw nearly hit the floor when a coworker introduced me to the wonderful world of Polish film posters a couple of years ago. These conceptual masterpieces put the original American posters to shame every time; they are truly beautiful works of art. Trimming this list down to a mere 50 posters that I absolutely love was surprisingly difficult.-Wellmedicated

Difficile d'imaginer que cet homme aux yeux humides et au coeur sensible est le prince des ténèbres fou et survolté qui enflamme les scènes du groupe des Breastfeeders. Strikers-Impact: le onze montréalais souhaite mettre fin à l'hémorragie
L'Impact de Montréal tentera de mettre un terme à l'hémorragie samedi après-midi, à l'occasion de la visite des Strikers de Fort Lauderdale au stade Saputo.
L'attaquant Ali Gerba est de retour avec l'Impact après avoir participé à la Gold Cup de la CONCACAF avec l'équipe nationale canadienne. Il sera toutefois absent contre Fort Lauderdale en raison d'une légère blessure au genou.

Film on Paper
After two years of preparation, I am very proud and excited (and a bit nervous) to finally reveal this personal project to the world. Film on Paper was created because I decided I wanted to photograph my collection of original film posters and share them with a wider audience. The site represents 17 years worth of collecting and features posters from all genres as well as several countries, multiple sizes and various formats.
The ‘About’ section features further details about the creation and intention of the site, but I thought it might be worth listing some statistics:
- At launch there are 1494 posters represented with their own individual pages and a total of 12,080 images attached to them.
- These pages represent approximately 950 individual films (exact figure to be confirmed)
- All the photographs were taken by me and in total over 2 terabytes of images were captured before they were curated.
- Every single image was manually tweaked (lens correction, cropping, white-balance corrected etc) using Adobe Lightroom. No batch-processing here!
- In total I have spent well over 1000 hours preparing the site for launch.
