Eating Out: Mind-Blowing Mid-Century Restaurant Postcards

In the 20th Century we began to eat out in our droves. In this gallery, we see restaurant postcards, pass-it-on souvenirs of memorable and special meals. The harsh modern critic suggests the busy decor existed to distract attention from the food, those oft-tried combinations of pineapple, cheese and aspic. But the interiors also tell us that these places were not bland chains. These were individual small businesses full of large pendant lighting, food-shaped furniture and other furnishings that mattered to their owners.
